'Petit Museu' collection
The collection ‘Petit Museu’ forms part of the project, started in autumn 2011, with the title, ‘The Serrallo, a place for stories: the memory of the fishers’. This initiative of the Public Library of Tarragona in collaboration with the Port Museum of Tarragona has the aim of recovering the intangible heritage of the Serrallo, Tarragona’s Port neighbourhood.
This project has counted on the support of the fishing and restaurant communities of the neighbourhood. Interviews have been held with people working on the sea, and in the world of fish and seafood cuisine: skippers, cooks, and current restaurant owners.

Motor Smith Bolnes
Diesel engine, low speed at two times and 1120 ph -power horses. Of 7 pistons online, being one reserve.
Extracted from the merchant ship called Dragonera that was built by the shipyards Juliana Constructora Gijonesa S.A. in 1960. In the early nineties, due to its poor condition, it was agreed to transfer it to the Society of Underwater Explorations to sink it near the breakwater of the dam, integrating it into the Underwater Park. Previously, this engine had been extracted and was transferred to the Escola Taller de Tarragona in order to be used, educationally, in the engine module.
On March 18, 1994, work began on the extraction, cleaning, repair of parts and preparation for their musealization and exhibition. A wreath was adapted around the engine which, with the strength of a motoreductor, allowed slow movement of the whole set of crankshafts, bevels and pistons provided with a closed grease system. The iron bench lifts the engine from the ground 50 cm to facilitate its observation and a rear staircase allows visitors to access the upper part and see the cylinders, thanks to the built-in methacrylate domes.
Since 2000 it has been part of the permanent exhibition of the Port of Tarragona Museum.

Capitan Argüello
Prepared to sail and paddle, it was built with escues to be able to sail to the beach of Calafell where its former owner, the writer Carles Barral, was made at sea. Built ex professo according to the instructions of the writer to the shipwright, Sebastià Roch, it has always been a recreational setting even if it had the appearance of a fishing boat. As Barral said in different press articles he liked to roam in winter so he sailed alone. The name of the boat comes from the pseudonym used by Father Barral in his writings. The colors it shines are inspired by the classic Greek ships, as well as the eyes depicted in the oars.
The book Catalunya des del mar was inspired and written in this boat.
After the writer's death in 1989, the construction remained on the beach of Calafell until the Port of Tarragona acquired it and subsequently restored it to be used in Latin sailing regattas and safeguarded as a historical maritime heritage with the intention of incorporating it into the collection of the future Port of Tarragona Museum, inaugurated in 2000 and where it is currently exhibited.
- 1956
- Wooden and built in traditional shipyard
- Master ship: Sebastià Roch Carles (Dassanes Roch de Tarragona)
- It lengths 6.15 m. Beam 2.44 m Puntal 0.75 m
