Library / Archive
Besides the collections of documents themselves, the Port Archive also provides an important additional library of about 9,500 volumes, mainly based on port and maritime themes: trade and shipping, marine navigation and seafarers, engineering, lighthouses, shipwrecks and rescue, fisheries and inland waterways, ships and shipbuilding and sport harbours to highlight a few.
The Local Section plays a considerable role as it is they who try to achieve those works, both of historical and economic nature, which may be useful for all users and for their research.
The collection of documents from other ports in Spain, as well as other international ports, should also be highlighted, for the rich and useful statistical data they contain.. Many of them go back to the mid-nineteenth century, when most works boards were created in Spain.
Special mention also to the actual Archive, which has more than 420 titles, mostly of maritime content, but also including newspapers and technical journals, engineering data and information on local history.
The oldest specimen preserved is an Archaeological Bulletin from the year 1901, followed by the number 57 of the magazine Lighthouses and Beacons of 1914.
