A banda dels fons documentals pròpiament dits, l'Arxiu disposa també d´una important biblioteca auxiliar al voltant dels 9.500 volums, principalment de temàtica marítima i portuària: comerç i transport marítim, marina, gent de mar i navegació, enginyeria, fars, naufragis i salvament, pesca i navegació fluvial, vaixells i construcció naval o ports esportius per destacar-ne algunes.
La Secció Local hi té un pes específic considerable ja que s’intenta aconseguir aquelles obres, tant de temàtica històrica com econòmica, que puguin ser útils per als nostres usuaris i usuàries i les seves recerques.
Cal destacar també la col·lecció de les memòries dels altres ports de l’estat espanyol, així com algunes d’internacionals, molt útils i riques pel volum de dades estadístiques que contenen. Moltes d’elles arrenquen de mitjan segle XIX, moment en què es crearen la majoria de juntes d’obres de ports en territori espanyol.
Menció especial mereix també l’Hemeroteca que compta amb més de 420 capçaleres, majoritàriament de temàtica marítima, encara que també aplega diaris i revistes tècniques, d’enginyeria, d’història local o d’arxivística.
L’exemplar més antic que es conserva és un Butlletí Arqueològic de l’any 1901, seguit del número 57 de la revista Faros y Balizas de l'any 1914.
