The international exhibition in 1929 was a key stage in the development of the modern city as we conceive it today. The future Exhibition ’29 would be held in MontjuĂ¯c. Within this framework the essential idea of the Poble Espanyol was to bring together various types of popular Spanish architecture in an artificial village. The architect Francesc Folguera, the painter Xavier NoguĂ©s, the engineer and artistic promoter Miquel Utrillo, and the architect RamĂ³n RaventĂ³s were the inspiration behind the Poble Espanyol. The four visited a total of 1,600 villages and towns in Spain, and Prades was visited in 1927. The Fountain and the entry gate in Prades were reproduced in the Poble Espanyol.
