Parcs Químics, the Chemical Industrial Complex, will take charge of the Port of Tarragona fire prevention, control and extinction service

This Friday 5 April, the president of the Tarragona Port Authority, Josep Maria Cruset, and the president of the Associació Parcs Químics de Seguretat, Francisco Javier Castillo, signed an agreement under which the Parc Químic de Seguretat (Chemical Industrial Complex Safety Division) will take charge of the fire prevention, emergency control and extinction services in the Port of Tarragona service zone, as well as the contingency operations in the case of marine accidents. It will undertake these tasks in coordination with the different administrations responsible for these areas under the terms established in the current applicable regulations, with the specialist primary and secondary response teams and equipment as part of the functions provided for in the applicable Port of Tarragona Self-Protection Plan contingency plans.
This contract is a continuation of the working line developed by the Port Authority that involves its ability to provide specialist responses to possible maritime-terrestrial emergencies that may occur in the port zone, as well as to episodes of maritime pollution. It also continues to promote the participation of the Chemical Industrial Complex Safety Services in preventive, educational and training activities; the organisation of drills and simulations; and the strengthening of coordination with other emergency intervention and management bodies.
As a service provider, the Associació Parcs Químics de Seguretat has extensive experience, a staff of highly trained professionals specialised in the emergency management of the risks inherent in port and chemical-industrial complexes.
Parcs Químics will provide the Port of Tarragona the service of dealing with episodes of accidental marine pollution involving potentially hazardous substances, as well as prevention and training services and the maintenance of the equipment used for these tasks. The contract is for 5 years.
