The Port, together with Bergé Logistics, is sponsoring the Automobile Logistics Workshop to be held as part of the trade fair on 7 June
Once again this year the Port of Tarragona is participating in SIL, the International Logistics and Maintenance Fair (SIL), to be held from 5 to 7 June at the Fira de Barcelona exhibition centre. As in previous years, the Tarragona port infrastructure will be present with its own stand (D-452 in Pavilion 8). The Port of Tarragona’s objective is to promote its infrastructures and services and the advantages it offers and that position it as the intermodal logistics platform for the Mediterranean.
Over the years of its participation in this logistics event, the Port of Tarragona has established contacts with the most important agents in the field of international logistics and transport. The Port’s objective is to grow in all areas of traffic, especially general cargo, both containerised and non-containerised. The fact is that the Port of Tarragona presents a logical and competitive proposal in terms of price, service and hinterland, as well as an excellent loading capacity with efficient rail connections.
International projection as a logistics hub
The Port of Tarragona presents its intermodal strategy as a key element in its international projection, at the same time as guaranteeing an optimum positioning in the Mediterranean. Of particular importance is the use of rail transport, which is vital for expanding its area of influence and becoming a benchmark port in Europe. The Port of Tarragona has the largest internal rail network of all the Spanish ports, with 10.3 km of IUR gauge and 46.3 km of Iberian gauge.
Events Programme
In this edition of SIL, the Port of Tarragona has organised a programme of activities on its stand. The programme includes, on 5 June, a talk on “LNG Bunkering: a new opportunity in Tarragona” given by Luís Lendínez of Gas Natural Fenosa. He will speak about the new commitment to this method of supplying cargo vessels with a more environmentally-friendly fuel. The use of LNG (liquid natural gas) as a fuel has several advantages: versatility, efficiency, cost and flexibility, in addition to its repercussion on the CSR.
On 6 June it will be the turn of Charles Misseghers of Union Maritime et Fluviale de Marseille, who will give a talk on the new platform for improving the logistics of petrochemical products in the Mediterranean.
Tarragona Port Community Day
The traditional Tarragona Port Community Day brunch for the 20th SIL 2018 will be held on 6 June at 12 noon on the Port of Tarragona stand. Remember that to enter the area you first have to register online.
Automobile Logistics Workshop
On the last day of the SIL, Thursday 7 June, the Automobile Logistics Workshop will be held in the XPO LOGISTICS room in the Fira de Barcelona complex. The Port of Tarragona is sponsoring the workshop together with Bergé Logistics.
Particular mention should be made of the fact that the movement of vehicles in Port of Tarragona has seen exponential growth in recent years, making it the sixth-ranking port in Spain in the volume of vehicles transported. Moreover, according to the most recent “Maritime-Port Logistics Assessment” report by ANFAC (the Spanish Association of Automobile and Lorry Manufacturers), Tarragona leads the ranking of best ports, together with the port of Santander, for the third consecutive year.
