The first of the 55 cruise ships expected this year will berth on the Llevant Wharf on the 28th
On the 28th of this month the Port of Tarragona will begin an unprecedented cruise season. The first vessel, the Pearl II belonging to Saga Cruises, will arrive from Barcelona at 8 am and will set sail for Cádiz at 6 pm. It is 164.35 m long and can carry 620 passengers.
The Pearl II will be the first of 55 cruise ships due make a stopover this year in the Port of Tarragona, an increase of 49% over the 2017 season (37 vessels). There is also a major increase in the number of passengers, with some 80,000 expected, 56% more than last season (over 51,000).
This year will also see two vessels coinciding on the Llevant Wharf, on 18 May, 14 and 16 September and 26 October.
The Port and the Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada brand were present at the beginning of this month at Seatrade Cruise Global, the world’s most important cruise trade fair, which was held this year in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The city’s representatives were able to corroborate that the Costa Cruceros 2017 project had become a benchmark in the sector, projecting Tarragona as a base port (passenger embarkation and disembarkation). We can also highlight the direct interest of the major shipping lines in operating in our port, demonstrating the current success of the Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada brand. In fact, it has opened the door to the large companies that until now had not considered Tarragona as an option on their itineraries and several agreements were signed with cruise lines that augur well for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
