Energy products, paper wood-pulp, vehicles, feedstuff and fodder and live animals are the traffic that have achieved the best figures
The Port of Tarragona has registered an accumulated growth of 9.5% from January to November of this year (31.2 Mt), with the leading traffic being energy products (up 11.9%) and animal feedstuff and fodder (up 11.8%), paper wood-pulp (up 44.9%), vehicles (up 31.6%), live animals (up 27.7%) and common salt (up 107.7%) among others.
Looking solely at the data for the month of November, special emphasis should be placed in the traffic in bulk liquids, which grew by 27.2% (1.8Mt), compared to the same period last year. This very traffic has also increased by some 12% in accumulated growth. With regard to bulk solids, although this month registered a decrease of 29.7% as a result of the fall in coal, in accumulated terms from January to November the growth is nearly 4% and in global terms this has been compensated for by the significant rise in cereals, feedstuff and flours with an increase of 65.6% during the month of November with 603,304 tonnes moved. In terms of general cargo, although container traffic has gone down, the total has grown by 9% during November and by almost 4% in the first eleven months of the year all together.
These figures point to a good close to the financial year for the Port of Tarragona, with significantly positive figures.
As for the twelve-month traffic (November 2016 to November 2017) the growth is 8.15%, demonstrating the sustained growth of Tarragona’s logistics infrastructure.
Growth in energy product traffic
Examining the data according to type of goods, the Port of Tarragona has registered an accumulated growth of 11.9% from January to November in energy products, especially crude oil (up 17.7%) fuel-oil (up 18.6%), gas-oil (up 31.8%) and petrol (up 42%).
During the first 11 months of the year the traffic in chemicals has also increased by 6% (1,713,643 tonnes).
Good results in terms of diversification
Altogether vehicles and their parts rose by 31.6% (264,354 tonnes) with 181,493 units moved and paper wood-pulp by 44.9% (535,637 tonnes). Notable once more in the agri-food and livestock sector has been live animals, which have registered a significant increase, with an increase of 27.7% in head-count (328,114 units) and 65% in tonnes (56,744 tonnes).
These data show, once again, that the traffic diversification strategy begun by the Port of Tarragona in 2012 is giving very good results.
