The Port of Tarragona was the setting last week of the 14th Technical Conference of Young Professionals in the Ports and Coasts Sector, which was held on October 26th and 27th.
These conferences are a place for young professionals in the port and coastal sector to meet and exchange knowledge. By presenting papers and making technical visits, in this case within the grounds of the Port of Tarragona, it also becomes a way of disseminating the latest technical advances
The Chairman of the Port, Josep Maria Andreu, inaugurated these talks last Thursday in the Teatret del Serrallo. During his speech, Andreu spoke of the main types of traffic, such as petrochemicals and agri-food. With regard to the latter, he recalled that "we are leaders in the Mediterranean in this type of goods". He also referred to the commitment of the Port’s infrastructure to diversifying traffic, and cited some more recent examples, such as live animals or paper wood-pulp, among others, as examples of types of traffic that are obtaining very good results.
Andreu also referred to the Port’s commitment to cruise ships; an initiative that "is proving very positive, not only for our Port, but also for the city and the region". In terms of infrastructure, the chairman wished to emphasise the expansion of the Chemistry dock and the intermodal terminals.
This was followed by a presentation on the Port of Tarragona aimed at informing those attending about the different types of traffic and facilities.
