Asfaltos Españoles, SA (ASESA) has received the ship 'Baltic Commodore’, which is unloading 25,000 tonnes of crude oil. With this operation, ASESA has reached the milestone of 100 million tonnes moved in the Port of Tarragona. The ship, built at the end of 2003, has a maximum draught of 11.27 metres and a length of 182.55 metres.
On August 10th 1965 the ship 'Albuera’ was the first to operate at the ASESA pontoon in the Port of Tarragona. 52 years later, the 'Baltic Commodore' marks a new success for Asfaltos Españoles SA, an operator that operates an average of 170 to 200 tankers annually in the Port of Tarragona, with which it imports and exports approximately over two million tonnes a year. ASESA is leader in asphalt bitumen production, producing 45% of Spain’s total amount. In recent years it has instigated a diversification plan for the activity, with the addition of the High Efficiency Cogeneration plant, together with energy reuse of the fractions obtained from crude oil distillation, where the most advanced quality standards are applied.
Commemorative plaque presentation ceremony
Aboard the ship, the Port’s Commercial and Corporate Development director, Genevieve Clement, presented a commemorative plaque to the representatives of ASESA, Alfonso Ramos, Head of the Department of Business Development, and Dídac Ysanda, Head of the Production Department, for reaching the milestone of 100 million tonnes moved. In the same ceremony the representatives of ASESA also presented a commemorative plaque to the captain of the ‘Baltic Commodore’.
