NAME OF PROJECT: Core Network Corridors and Liquefied Natural Gas Hive.
ACRONYM: CORE LNGas HIVE
EUROPEAN PROGRAMME: Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for Transport
ROLE OF THE TARRAGONA PORT AUTHORITY: Partner
DURATION: 1 January 2016 – 31 December 2020
BUDGET: 33.295.760€
CORE LNGas Hive is a global Project whose main objective is to endow Spain and Portugal with an adequate infrastructure and operating framework for the deployment of a global supply network of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for transportation uses, in the context of the Mediterranean and Atlantic Core Network Corridors and in the connection area between both corridors across the Strait of Gibraltar.
The Project is focused on a specific objective of the MAP 2.1 Priority: “… support the Member States in implementing the Clean Power for Transport Directive ...” i.e. Directive 2014/94, which establishes a roadmap to develop the infrastructure to supply clean fuels for transport uses, gradually replacing the current coal and oil propulsion systems.
To this end, CORE LNGas Hive presents: a group of studies aiming at enhancing the use of LNG through the elaboration of recommendations to develop framework conditions for using LNG as a fuel in port environments, training programmes at the different educational levels, optimization of LNG logistics chains or feasibility studies for emissions reduction in a specific transport sector.
Besides, the Project includes several real-life pilots to test and validate some of the uncertainties still present about their environmental and operational performance and check whether, and under what conditions, those projects are feasible, both technically and economically.
