Tarragona Cruise Port Welcome Center, the new reception area for cruise ship passengers in the Port of Tarragona

The Tarragona Cruise Port Welcome Center was presented to the media today. Located in Refugi 1 on the Costa Wharf, it will enter into service this coming 6 May. These new facilities will be used to carry out the embarkation and disembarkation procedures for cruise ship passengers arriving in and departing from the Port of Tarragona. Some 27,000 cruise ship passengers are expected to pass through the facilities during the 2019 cruise season. In a single day up to 700 embarking and 700 disembarking passengers will use the facilities, a figure that could reach 1,000 people if more than one cruise ship is in port at the same time.

During a tour of the facilities, the president of the Port of Tarragona, Josep Maria Cruset, explained that behind these new premises lies "a commitment to improve the service we offer to passengers and is a consequence of the growth of this sector in recent years".

Tarragona Cruise Port Welcome Center has a total area of 1,300 m² divided into two different zones. The first and largest (815 m²) is the embarkation or check-in zone with a spacious waiting area for passengers and different services including Wi-Fi and a tourist information point. The second (485 m²) is for disembarking passengers. The exterior parking zone has several spaces reserved for coaches, taxis and a “kiss & go” zone for family and friends dropping off passengers.

The forecast for this 2019 season shows a consolidation of the growth trend of recent years with a total of 65 cruise ships (up 14% on last year) and more than 110,000 passengers (a 12% increase). This year the Port of Tarragona has also consolidated its position as a base port with the arrival of the 3,470-passenger-capactity Costa Fortuna.
