The 2019 season is set to be the best ever with some 110,000 cruise passengers expected

Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada will be at Seatrade Cruise Global Miami 2019 from 8 to 11 April as part of the Spanish State Ports stand. It will present its potential as a cruise destination to the world’s top travel agents. Seatrade Miami is the most important international cruise industry trade fair and brings together customers and suppliers in a week of networking, purchasing, innovation and education.

Tarragona Cruise Port Costa Daurada is attending this international event with the aim of promoting the city of Tarragona, the Costa Daurada and the Terres de l’Ebre as a first-class tourism and cruise destination to an international market, as well as to consolidate the relations initiated with the new marketing strategy aimed at making the Port of Tarragona a benchmark cruise destination in the Mediterranean.

The region’s maturity as a one of the Mediterranean’s most popular tourist destinations and the possibilities of opening itself up to the international market are the main arguments for the definitive entrance of Tarragona and the Costa Daurada into the competitive world of cruises.

2019: Record year for cruises

The Port of Tarragona expects to continue to grow as a cruise destination. The forecast for this year is for 65 cruise ships (14% more than in 2018) and 110,000 passengers, an increase of 12%.

Of special note is the continuing commitment of Costa Cruceros to Tarragona. This season the company will bring a new, larger vessel, the Costa Fortuna, with a capacity of 3,470 passengers, in addition to the 1,730-passenger Costa Neoriviera that will continue to berth in our port.

In 2018, the Port of Tarragona had its best cruise season to date, with figures that broke all records: 98,126 cruise passengers, an increase of 91% over 2017. In terms of the number of vessels, last year 57 cruises made stopovers in Tarragona, an increase of 54%. The forecast for 2019 is for an even greater increase, with 65 cruise ships (+14%) and 110,000 passengers.
