New digitalised documents from the Port of Tarragona Works Protection Board Collection

This year has seen the digitalisation of severaI more years of the Books of Certificates and Deliveries from the Collection of the Port of Tarragona Works Protection Board, the body that managed our port between 1790 and 1836.

They consist of 39 volumes from 1805 to 1818 in which we can see reflected the economic activity of the Port of Tarragona in the form of two basic documents: certificates and deliveries, although we can also find lists of the daily inspections of the convicts who worked on the building projects and invoices from various suppliers.

The series of Certificates and Deliveries is virtually complete; the only years missing are from 1810 to 1813, the period of the Peninsular War, in which the city of Tarragona was severely affected.

In total there are 20,603 digital images available online on the Port of Tarragona website in the Digital Archive section.

The objective of the digitalisation of documents in the archives is two-fold: to increase their dissemination and to avoid their physical deterioration due to handling by staff and researchers.
