The Port’s president, Josep Andreu, promotes the port at the Transport Logistic Fair in Shanghai and commits to ‘synchromodality’ as a guarantee of the future of Spanish ports

On the invitation of the State Ports Authority, the Port of Tarragona took part in the Maritime-Continental Silk Road Logistics Summit, Silk Road & Port Shipping Cooperation Forum held within the framework of Transport Logistic China 2018, the most important logistics fair in Asia, which ends today in Shanghai.

The Port of Tarragona participated in this trade fair together with the ports of Barcelona, Valencia and Bilbao. Each port spoke individually of the value of its current and future port infrastructures, which offer a high level of connectivity with Europe.

The Mediterranean Corridor was the star infrastructure as a key element of connectivity for the new logistics route known as the “Silk Route” linking Asia (China) and Europe.

The Port of Tarragona president, Josep Andreu, presented the credentials of the Tarragona port infrastructure, specifically highlighting its geostrategic position on a “crossroads” between the Central and Mediterranean Corridors. He also emphasised that its current level of infrastructure will give it a high level of connectivity with Europe once the territory is connected to the European gauge rail network (IUR) in 2020.

Andreu presented the new “La Boella” intermodal rail-port terminal, while affirming that the future lies in “synchromodality”, i.e. the management of intermodality combined with information technologies to consistently guarantee the most efficient logistics solution.

Finally, in his role as president of ChemMed, Josep Andreu presented the Tarragona chemical industry cluster to the conference delegates. He particularly highlighted the future vocation of the Port of Tarragona to become the prime hub port in the Western Mediterranean for petrochemical products.
