The 19,500 digital images are available on the Port’s website

This year a part of the books of Certificates and Deliveries from the Port of Tarragona’s Protective Works Committee Fund have been converted to digital format. This body was in charge of managing the Port of Tarragona between 1790 and 1836. Specifically they are 31 volumes, covering the years 1790 to 1804, reflecting the economic activity of the Port of Tarragona during those years, in the form of two basic documents: the certificates and the deliveries, although there are also lists of the daily checks that were made on the convicts who worked on the site, for example, or invoices from suppliers.

The deliveries are accounting documents authorising the treasurer to make a payment, while the certificate vouches for having executed a task for a third party and the consequent payment of this service.

The Certificates and Delivery series is very complete, with only those during the war of independence, corresponding to the years 1810 to 1813, being missing.

In total, there are some 19,500 digital images available online on the Port of Tarragona’s website in the Digital Archive section, which received 976,913 views in 2016.

The digitisation of documents in the archives has a dual purpose: to multiply their dissemination and to preserve them from direct manipulation.
