The Port of Tarragona is preparing the sixth edition of Med Hub Day
14 Oct
2022

The motto for this year's edition is "Being a hub in the era of energy transition"

New topics this year include new fuels and energy vectors

The sixth edition of Med Hub Day, organised by the Port of Tarragona and sponsored by the ChemMed cluster, will be held on November 10 and 11 in Tinglado 1 on the Costa Wharf. This edition will be marked by the return of the 100% face-to-face format in a port environment. The programme will be full of experts linked to the sector and attendance will be free of charge.

The slogan given to this year’s edition by the Tarragona Port Authority (TPA), the event organiser, is "Being a hub in the era of energy transition", around which all the conferences and round tables will pivot. In line with this motto, the Port of Tarragona will also incorporate new themes on innovative fuels and energy vectors. These will include hydrogen and its importance due to the Hydrogen Valley Catalonia.

The round tables on liquid bulk terminals and petrochemical companies, which were highly rated by attendees in previous editions, will continue. The TPA will continue to commit to conferences in the areas of rail-port intermodality and bunkering, two of Port Tarragona’s commercial objectives.

A consolidated conference

The aim of the Sixth Med Hub Day is to promote, debate and exchange information about the strengths and opportunities offered by the Mediterranean as a logistics platform for chemical and petrochemical products.

With this objective, storage terminal operators, ports, consignees, freight forwarders, market analysts and chemical and petrochemical companies will meet for two days to debate and contribute ideas and innovations in which bunkering, new fuels and energies and intermodality will take centre stage.

The first Med Hub Day was held in 2017 and since then, year after year, it has enjoyed an increasing number of attendees, achieving maturity and a consolidated position among the prime events in the sector. The most recent edition (hybrid, face-to-face and online) brought together more than 100 attendees.

The sixth edition will begin on Thursday 10 November at 3 pm, when everyone attending the conference will be welcomed. This will be followed by the first session, which will deal with ports and railways. The day will end with a networking session.

The Med Hub Day will continue on Friday 11 at 9.30 am with the second session on the future of the petrochemical industry. The third and final session that will end the event will discuss new fuels and new opportunities.

Port of Tarragona, a benchmark in bulk liquids

The Port of Tarragona is a Mediterranean hub for the storage and distribution of liquid bulk products. It supports local industry by offering a storage service with first-class infrastructure and facilities.

The Camp de Tarragona area is considered to be one of the main logistics hubs in southern Europe for the production, storage and distribution of petrochemical products. Its strategic location and infrastructure allow it to meet any logistics need with an efficient distribution of all types of petrochemical products by ship, train, road or pipeline.

Taken together, Tarragona’s chemical and petrochemical industry companies generate an annual production of 20 million tons. This represents 50% of Catalonia's production and 25% of that of the whole of Spain.
