The Tarragona Port Authority marketing team has been at one of the chemical sector’s most important trade fairs in Rotterdam

A delegation from the Port Tarragona sales team was at LogiChem 2022, one of the most important chemical logistics events in Europe, which was held in the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

The Port of Tarragona is one of the most important ports in the western Mediterranean in this traffic sector, where it accounts for 15% of the total volume handled and is one of the benchmarks in southern Europe. As such, it did not want to miss this opportunity to keep up to date with the latest industry trends.

During the three-day event, the Port Authority sales team met with more than 40 companies in the sector interested in Tarragona’s port infrastructures. The team promoted the already existing infrastructures for the sector, as well as Port Tarragona’s advantages as a Mediterranean hub for the storage and distribution of bulk liquid products.

The Port Tarragona representatives took advantage of the international event to explain the port’s new projects and facilities, such as the Logistics Activities Zone and the railway development, two areas in which it is focusing much of its growth effort.

A Reference Port

Port Tarragona is a chemicals hub thanks to its strategic position, which accounts for the good results recorded in 2021. Bulk chemicals (liquids) saw an increase over 2020 of 30.6% and over 2019 of 22.4% (the best result since 2013), with a total of 2,220,470 tons handled.

The bulk liquids sector grew by 17% in 2021 with a total of 21.2 million tons handled, a return practically to pre-pandemic levels. This volume places the Tarragona infrastructure as the fourth most important port in the state port system in that sector, just behind Algeciras Bay, Huelva and Cartagena.

The figures achieved reflect the commitment and work of the Port and the effect of the investments made by the companies operating on the Chemicals Wharf, as well as the interest aroused by the concession of the last 15,000 m2 on that dock.
