How to prepare ourselves as a destination for the arrival of cruise ships in the ‘new normal’ scenario” the objective of the webinar is to analyse future sector scenarios

Aimed mainly at agents involved in the Tarragona-Costa Daurada cruise tourism destination

Next Thursday 11 June at 9 am, the Port of Tarragona, with the collaboration of Cruise Knowledge Club, is organising a webinar on the new normality of cruise liner sector. This is the first webinar organised on the subject and is aimed mainly at agents involved in the Tarragona-Costa Daurada cruise tourism destination.

The online conference will begin at 9 am on Thursday with a welcome from the Port of Tarragona president, Josep Maria Cruset i Domènech. He will then give the floor to the other participating speakers, Luis de Carvalho, CEO of Bermello Ajamil & Partners Europe; Virginia López Valiente, Director General of Cruises News Media Group; and Ramon Hurtado, Global Product & Operations Manager of Intercruises Shoreside Port Services.

The speakers will present an analysis of the measures announced by the Ministry of Transport and their implementation. They will then review the measures currently in force regarding the arrival of cruise ships and the recommendations the government has put into place for restarting operations: what they consist of; what their implications are; how they are organised, etc. They will look at cases where it is essential to have action protocols in place, as well as looking at the multiple options that are being studied in terms of the onboard spread of infection, etc.

The new normality in the cruise ship sector

The Port of Tarragona is working to restart the cruise liner season as soon as possible, always with the proviso that the sanitary conditions allow it and giving the utmost priority to the health and wellbeing of the population.

In the new normality, tourism will be affected by the new health protocols and the implementation of measures designed to minimise the risk of infection. Things will change substantially and the whole sector will have to adapt its operations to comply with the new measures and standards.

From that point of view, the webinar responds to the need to be prepared for the possibility of the 2020 season beginning and to be able to instigate the necessary logistics agilely and safely from the outset. At the same time, we need to be aware of the certainty that it will also be necessary to implement these measures for the 2021 season.

The start of the season is still an unknown quantity and the agents involved are waiting to see how the situation evolves. If eventually it is not possible to begin the season, all the work undertaken to date can be taken advantage of to prepare the 2021 season that, according to sector studies, is experiencing greater demand than previous years.
