The president of the Port of Tarragona shares its future challenges with the region’s town councils

Continuing with the round of institutional visits to different bodies and institutions in the territory begun when he took possession of the post last November, the president of the Port of Tarragona, Josep Maria Cruset, has today visited the town councils of Salou, La Canonja and Reus, all municipalities with links to the Port of Tarragona.

The first meeting of the morning was with the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, and the councillor for Administration and Territory, Marc Montagut.

The participants used the opportunity to exchange impressions on the protohistoric archaeological site of La Cella, an Iberian village in the Cap Salou area, part of which is on land belonging to the Port of Tarragona.

The outstanding point of this meeting with members of the Salou local government was the of sharing of the vision of strategic projects in the territory, such as the Vila-Seca and Salou Recreational and Tourism Centre.

Following this early morning visit, Mr Cruset, accompanied by the director general of the Port, Ramón Ignacio Garcia, met the mayor of La Canonja, Roc Muñoz, together with the deputy mayor, Salvador Ferrer, and the municipal architect, Miquel Orellana.

In this meeting, Mr Cruset highlighted the project for new Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL), the administrative procedures for which are currently being finalised, and the overland connections with the neighbouring municipalities. In the last of today’s institutional visits, the Port president met with the mayor of Reus, Carles Pellicer, and Marc Arza, councillor for Economic Promotion and Town Planning.

The discussion included the importance of the capital of Baix Camp county’s entrepreneurial fabric to the Port of Tarragona. Mr Cruset also explained the ZAL project and its accesses to the representatives of Reus town council.

The representatives of the Port and the municipality also took advantage of the meeting to discuss the success of the passenger cruise traffic in Tarragona and the Port of Tarragona Institutional Committee on Cruise Ships, of which Reus town council is a member. This committee was recognised in the most recent APPORTT awards presented in December as the most active body in the external projection of the Port.

These meetings serve to set out current and future projects and to discuss different subjects of interest for all the institutions involved, as well as to reaffirm a willingness to work jointly in benefit of the region as a whole.
