13 Nov
2018

Professionals from all over Europe will come together on 22 and 23 November to promote the Mediterranean as a sustainable logistics platform for petrochemical products

In its role as a benchmark port for the petrochemical industry in the Mediterranean, the Port of Tarragona is holding the second edition of the Hub Day this coming 22 and 23 November in the Teatret del Serrallo. This second edition is being organised in conjunction with the ChemMed chemical industry cluster and the chemical and petrochemical storage terminal operators, including Tepsa, Euroenergo and Vopak Terquimsa. Its objective is to promote the Mediterranean as a sustainable logistics platform for petrochemical products.

This second edition of the Hub Day workshop will be attended by industry professionals from different areas of Spain and countries such as Portugal, the United Kingdom, Holland and France to discuss how to respond to the current trends in the petrochemical market. They will be able to share the views, opinions and needs of the different actors in that market and discuss how to improve the positioning, infrastructure and services of the Port of Tarragona, with the aim of facing up to the competition from the ports of northern Europe.

Presentations on Friday 23 November

On Friday 23 November, the president of the Port of Tarragona, Josep Andreu, will welcome sector professionals from all over Europe to this second edition of the Hub Day. They will hear presentations and take part in working sessions aimed at finding ways in which to promote the sustainable logistics platform of the Western Mediterranean as an alternative gateway to the large Northern European ports, such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp, among others, and to develop opportunities in this petrochemical sector.

They will also analyse the market trends in European petrochemical products; the control of vessels and their environmental impact on the Mediterranean; competitiveness between northern and southern European terminals, and market trends in the storage of those products. Experts will explain the sustainable alternatives for reducing CO2 emissions and analyse the current flows in the Mediterranean to optimise petrochemicals distribution, as well as the main benefits and challenges. Delegates will also tour the Tepsa facilities in the port.

This conference was first held in 2017 and it is aimed to consolidate it as an essential annual meeting for fostering dialogue and cooperation in the transportation and storage of petroleum and chemical products in the Mediterranean region.
