Excellent figures for agri-food products, crude petroleum, paper pulp and iron and steel products in the first four months of the year

The Port of Tarragona recorded a growth of 10.6% during the month of April, with more than 3 million tons handled (3.07 Mt), a very positive figure that makes this fourth month of the year the best in the port’s history.

If we break down the figures, of particular note is the growth in bulk liquids (+12,4%), with more than 2 million tons. Sold bulks recorded an increase of 1.2% (778.306t). General cargo performance was also very good (221.550t) and continues its positive evolution with a growth of 29.5%. Iron and steel products, paper and pulp paper and vehicles, among others, are the basis for the excellent evolution of general conventional cargo.

Four historical months in agri-food

Looking at the figures in terms of cargo types in the year so far (January-April), agri-food products stand out at 1.8Mt, an increase of 43.6%, in which the growth in cereals and flours stand out (+109.4%), as well as fruit, vegetables and pulses (+65,7%). The figures place the first four months of this year as the best in the port’s history in agri-food products, a fact that is repeated in the movements of paper and pulp paper, with an accumulated increase of 77.6% in the first four months of 2018. In terms of energy products, the four first months of the year have remained stable (7.6Mt), with crude petroleum (+14.3%) and the gasoil (+33.9%) standing out.

Tarragona’s port infrastructure has also seen an increase in the traffic of chemical products (12.1%). Along the same lines, the iron and steel sector (+38,6%) and non-metallic minerals, with common salt standing out (+106,6), also performed very well during the first four months of 2018. For their part, vehicles also increased by 6.6% (68,725 units) in the first four months of the year.
