Last Tuesday executives from the Port of Tarragona and the AEQT attended a meeting of the chemical company BASF on behalf of the Chemmed cluster. Markus Kramer, who was appointed new chairman of the company’s European Region in April, came to the city to learn about the Tarragona site and to meet the management of BASF’s Country Cluster Iberia.

On behalf of BASF, the visit was attended by Xavier Susterac, head of the company’s South-West Europe (EUS) sub-region; Carlos Navarro, Country Cluster Iberia Head, and Anne Berg, Tarragona Site Manager & Head Manufacturing Community Iberia. Present on behalf of Chemmed, were the chairman of the Port, Josep Andreu; its director, Ramón Ignacio García; its commercial director, Genoveva Climent; Teresa Pallarès, general director of the AEQT, and Jaume Sariol, vice-chairman of AEQT.

The BASF executives displayed an interest in this cluster, evaluated this initiative very positively and were pleasantly surprised by the excellent co-existence in the region between a growing chemical industry and a tourist industry that has grown considerably in a very short time and that represents a good example of public and private management of the area’s infrastructure. They also assessed the relationship between the Port and the AEQT very positively. In this sense, the chairman of the Port highlighted the benefits of the creation of the Chemmed cluster, which aims to bring together the efforts of the different companies in the chemical sector in order to become the most important chemical hub in southern Europe.

They also expressed their keen satisfaction with the services provided by the Port of Tarragona and made clear their willingness to continue investing in the city.
