The economic impact of the event on the city is expected to be 300,000 euros

On the coming 5th of August, the Port of Tarragona will host what has already become a summer classic, the Port of Tarragona Triathlon, part of the Santander Triathlón Series. It is anticipated that between 1,100 and 1,200 athletes will participate in this event which, in a single weekend, can produce an economic impact on the city of 300,000 euros.

The presentation for this sports event took place this morning at the Port’s Function Room. Juan Fernandez, the manager of Running Solutions (the organiser of the triathlon), explained the technical characteristics of the race, which is among the three biggest in Catalonia and the 10 biggest in Spain as a whole.

The presentation also featured Albert Parreño, an international triathlete, who will once again participate in the Port of Tarragona Triathlon this year. Parreño has participated in this trial every year, but this year marked a new challenge: participating in the Olympic triathlon, and then also doing so three hours later in the Supersprint one.

For his part, Marc Coll, the director of Port Tarraco, expressed his satisfaction for being able to collaborate once more with Running Solutions in this trial, one that he described as a "great event for the city."

On behalf of Tarragona City Council, Elisa Vedrina, the councillor in charge of sports, pointed out that it was an honour for the city to host events of this magnitude because "it is an opportunity to raise awareness about Tarragona".

On behalf of the Port, Gabriel Mas, the director of Port Ciutat, said that he was very pleased to host this triathlon, not only due to the sporting event itself, but also due to the benefits that this entails for the restaurant owners in the Serrallo and the lower part of Tarragona.
