ACCIÓ’s international delegates visit the facilities of ChemMed Tarragona

An international delegation from ACCIÓ visited Tarragona on Friday to learn about the ChemMed project, the chemical industry, the Port and the synergies with the area.

Around 10:00 am, some 50 delegates arrived at the headquarters of the Tarragona Port Authority, where they were received by Josep Andreu, the chairman of the Port of Tarragona and the vice-chairman of the cluster; Marc Fargas, director of the ECROS Tarragona Industrial Complex and a member of the ChemMed Board; Teresa Pallarès, general director of the cluster and of the AEQT; as well as other representatives of ChemMed Tarragona.

There it was explained to the ACCIÓ delegates how the Mediterranean chemical cluster works and what the distinguishing features and added value of the Tarragona chemical pole are.

In the framework of this first briefing, representatives of the cluster presented the industrial estates, the associated infrastructure and the Port of Tarragona. At the same time they stressed the balance and the coexistence between two of the main economic driving forces in the area: chemicals and tourism.

The delegates were thus presented with an overview of the region, which is the focus of attraction of activities related both to the chemical sector and to tourism. Under the title "Tarragona, a destination in which to invest, live and enjoy”, two success stories of multinationals located in Tarragona were presented - Nitricomax and PortAventura.

After this first meeting, the international ACCIÓ delegates paid a visit by boat to see the Port facilities and the southern chemical pole in situ, accompanied by the Port’s director of sales and business development, Genoveva Climent, and by the general director of DP World Tarragona, Xavier Boluda. 

At noon the delegation moved to PortAventura, where they visited the Ferrari Land theme park. 

Internationalisation of ChemMed Tarragona

This visit of the international ACCIÓ delegation of action is in line with the cluster’s strategy of internationalisation: finding synergies for placing Tarragona on the world’s petrochemical map, positioning the ChemMed brand in the world in order to attract investments and consolidating the existing balance between the chemical and tourism sectors.
