The Port of Tarragona is promoting its services in the Intermodal South America trade fair

The aim is to strengthen the links with the American continent

Within the framework of its strategy of international projection, the Port of Tarragona has participated for the eighth consecutive year in the Intermodal South America trade fair, which was held from the 4th to 6th of April in Sao Paolo (Brazil). This is one of the main international fairs for goods transport, logistics and foreign trade held in America, and a meeting place for the main players in the national and international market.

Representatives of the Port of Tarragona, who participated as part of the Ports of Spain stand, held several professional meetings with representatives of the different agents in the sector, private companies and shipping companies with a presence in South America, with the aim of capturing new general cargo traffic, both in containers and non-containerised. The Port of Tarragona presents a logical and competitive proposal both in terms of price and of its service and hinterland, with an excellent loading capacity and with efficient rail links.

The Port of Tarragona maintains a close relationship with the countries on the American continent, especially with regard to the traffic in fruit, paper pulp and steel products.

An entry port for tropical fruit for the Iberian Peninsula

In order to provide an outlet for the traffic in agricultural produce, the Port of Tarragona has the intermodal services and infrastructure that make it the best choice in the Mediterranean for distributing to the Iberian Peninsula and Europe; in addition to maritime connections with the major fruit-exporting countries, which translates into scheduled services with New Zealand, Costa Rica, Colombia and the Dominican Republic. The scheduled services on offer are completed with Canada and the United States.

The specific services provided include a spacious and modern Border Inspection Point (PIF), with all its facilities approved for importing fruit to the EU. In addition, the Port has specific quality controls, temperature controls, cargo monitoring systems via RF and a wide variety of value-added logistics services (consolidation/de-consolidation of cargos, picking services, etc.).

Container terminal

The container terminal in the Port of Tarragona is operated by DP World, one of the world’s largest operators of marine terminals. Located on the Moll d’Andalusia dock, this terminal is a strategic point in the Mediterranean Corridor and a hub link with the Eastern Mediterranean and North America. It has a capacity for moving 450,000 TEUs per year and 200 connections for Reefer containers. The terminal covers an area of 14.7 hectares with the possibility of expanding to 33 hectares, and has the capacity for unloading three ships simultaneously.
