The terminal, operated by international merchant EUROPORTS, is a benchmark for this type of traffic and positions Port de Tarragona as a pasta hub and paper coils. In fact, it is the only terminal specialised for this product in Spain and one of only 3 in the European Mediterranean.
The growth of paper paste traffic has continued since 2007.
Paper pasta reaches the Port mainly from South America and northern European countries. In recent years, traffic to paper reels and other forest products has diversified such as wooden planks.
The characteristics of the warehouses and the draught of adjacent docks make it easier for the port to be the first stop for trans-ocean transport and a point from which to distribute to other Mediterranean ports as well as to the Iberian and French hinterland, either by road or rail.
Like all goods, the handling of paper pasta requires special operating treatment conditions, which in this particular case are given and enhanced in our Port.
At the Moll of Cantabria there is a large storage space (four ships) covered for paper pasta and specialized paper reels and cranes to handle this type of commodity with minimal damage to the product.
The ships are located next to a 16.5m dam and more than 400m long dock, which allows for the operation of large vessels.
Additionally, the terminals have direct rail access, facilitating rail transport to the hinterland.
Euroports believes in the Port of Tarragona and in paper pulp traffic. The covered storage capacity is 45,000 m2 and the capacity of the discovered storage is 12,000m2
The Euroports multimodal terminal in our city has 400 metres of mooring with a depth of 16 m., allowing large vessels to dock.
The terminal has an adjacent track of 450 metres of length and a mixed width gauge (European and Iberian).
The Euroports multimodal terminal moves 400,000 tons of paperpaste and forest products during the year.
The relationship between the Port of Tarragona and Euroports is solid and primed for major success, without doubt in benefit of both parties.
