The Port of Tarragona counts on certified facility for the control and physical and documented inspection of goods coming into the European Union, commonly known as Border Inspection Point (BIP). However, this section includes 4 different types of facilities, depending on the product to be inspected:
BIP, Border Inspection Point
For the inspection of live animals and animal products, for human consumption and non-human consumption. Also inspect non-animal products for animal consumption.
RAH, Accredited Customs Precinct
For the inspection of non-animal products for human consumption.
PIF-phyto, Phytosanitary Border Inspection Point
For the inspection of plant products, for human consumption and non-human consumption.
PDI, Designated Point of Import
For the inspection of products subject to special protection measures.
Therefore, the Port of Tarragona has PIF facilities, RAH, PIF-phyto and PDI, all certified to fulfill the requirements of any applicable regulations.
The Border Inspection Services (FIS) perform their duties of inspection and control of goods at the facilities stated above. There are 4 different services under the authority of the General State Administration and are responsible for ensuring that imported and exported products satisfy appropriate conditions of sanitary, quality and safety measures. Each has its own functions and deals with certain categories of products: Foreign Health, Animal Health, Plant Health and SOIVRE (Official Service of Inspection, Supervision and Exports Regulations).
